Boys direct their energy toward outdoor events. These promote fun and growth. Fun in the boy doing things on his own and in company with other boys. Growth in the freedom to make and correct mistakes in a friendly atmosphere. The Scoutmaster guides and assists these efforts.
Boys joining the Boy Scouts of America have high expectations. They can hardly wait to go on hikes, sleep in tents, and cook meals in the open. They are eager to master the skills of Scouting and to put into practice what they have learned. They want to share experiences with their friends. They anticipate challenge, adventure, and recognition for their achievements.
They believe the promise, delivered when they chose to be Scouts, will be fulfilled! The Scoutmaster of Troop 55 is the person who will help them realize the promise of Scouting.
A Scoutmaster trains boys to be leaders, makes available to them the resources and guidance they need to lead well, and then steps into the background and lets them do their jobs. Boy Scouting revolves around a boy-led troop. Boys direct much of their energy to a troops outdoor program. For most Scouts, advancement will be a natural outcome of the troop’s outdoor program.
In the events calander page you will find outlined the current yearly program for Troop 55. It is jammed packed with things of interest for boys to do on outings and scheduled troop meetings. Older boys can see Venture Crew, and Order of the Arrow meetings and events. The two big sales money raisers, popcorn in the Fall and chocolate bars in the Spring are also refllected.
