Prayer Prayer Intentions Trails Baptist Religious Emblems Poetry Something Special
Troop 55 is a part of the Little Rock First Baptist Church faith community. There is not one troop function that isn’t ended in a prayer to ask God to bless our Scouting efforts, and to ask for his protection, all in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. A Scout is appointed as Chaplain’s Aide to ask for divine intervention on the Troops behalf. These prayers are from a young Scout who represents the heart and soul of the Little Rock First Baptist Church.
If you have special intentions that you would like the troop Scout Chaplain’s Aide to include in his prayers, please bring them to the attention of the Scoutmaster.
Where Scouting is for our trail of life here on earth, it leads toward and strengthens our “Faith in Jesus” which is paramount on our trail to eternal life. The Scout by learning the “Scout Oath and Law” prepares himself for life’s battles! The “Scout Oath and Law” are directly related to “Ten Commandments” and the Two Commandments of Jesus to love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, they whole soul, and they whole mind, and to love thy neighbor as thyself. This focus is extremely important to our Scout mission.
In the “Masterpieces of American Poets,” Edited by Mark Van Doren starting on page three can be found four poems by Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672). They are: “The Flesh and The Spirit,” “Contemplations,” “A Letter to Her Husband,“ and “Longing for Heaven.”
The Boy Scouts support the religious emblems program, which consists of programs created by various religious groups to encourage youth to grow stronger in their faith. The religious groups--not the Boy Scouts of America--have created the religious emblems programs themselves.
The Boy Scouts of America has approved of these programs and allows the recognition to be worn on the official uniform, but each religious organization developes and administers its own program. The Baptist Church provides student, counselor, and adult mentor materials for this program. Materials are gaged to various age groups and can be obtained from the Local council service center or P.R.A.Y., by calling 800-933-7729 or contacting web sites: www.praypub.org or www.bsa.net/abs/. Contact your Scoutmaster on how to get started.
Something Special
Following is a poem written by Loretta Simmons, 17, who died in the Christmas weekend slayings at Dover and Russellville. Simmons gave the poem to Danny Taylor, Superintendent of the Dover School District. It was read at a memorial service for Loretta.
Death of a Flower
A flower among the many seeds Each day another blooms Stronger and greater than the one before Till finally it’s at its best.
Slowly and sometimes painfully, The petals begin to droop And the color and life quickly vanish, Till all that is left is the stems, like memories, Reminding ourselves of what was then and what is now!
So soon we feel the loss. And then the sadness sets in of what once was so strong. So sweet and beautiful, and the knowledge of what was with us Is no longer there!
Loretta’s slaying was indeed a loss to us all. She left behind this special gift for us to ponder.
