The adult leaders are the dream makers who provide their time, expertise, and resources to make the patrol and troop plans a reality. If the Scouts dream it up, and it can be done, the adult leaders make it happen.  We always need more supporting adults. If you volunteer to help, there is always a need.  You will find challenge and fun too!

At this time our roster of adult leaders includes the following men. All have extensive Scouting background, having completed Scoutmaster’s training and/or Wood Badge training. If you choose to get involved, you will find the friendships you develop with the boys and men are rewarding and contageous.

There is always room for more men, trained men. If the training isn’t for you, then merit badge counselling might fit into you schedule and plans. You will have the satisfaction of instructing young boys in a subject near and dear to your heart. We hope so!  If you volunteer to do this, you will have to be registered with the Troop and the Council downtown.  This is at no cost to you.  Just call John Ohnemus and he’ll get the papers to you for the registration.

Some of the things we would like to know about you is your hobby, sports expertise, occupation, and willingness to assist in some of the following;

There are many books that touch on leadership.  One that I constantly refer to is “General Patton’s Principles for Life and Leadership” by Porter B. Williamson.  Another of late is “Shadow Warriors” Inside the Special Forces by Tom Clancy with General Carl Stiner (Ret.) and Tony Koltz. On page 102 and 103 are the principles General Stiner received from his father. This book tells the story of the kind of material the Special Forces seeks to have in its ranks. Truly, I believe this is the kind of material any organization seeks. For the individual who seeks to be a competent leader, these two books have a lot to say on what is necessary to achieve and be a successful leader.

Adult committee members are encouraged to complete: The Basic Scoutmasters Course, Woodbadge Course, and Powder Horn Course as offered by the Council. Only in such effort can a leader grasp the full intent of Scouting.  While your having fun in these courses, you will be gaining valuable leadership skills that can be applied to any church, corporate, or government environment.
