New Scout Patrol Regular Patrols Venture Crew
The Patrol is a group of Scouts who belong to a troop and who are probably similar in age, development, and interests. The Patrol size depends on the troops enrollment and the needs of its members, though an ideal patrol size is eight Scouts. Patrols with fewer than eight scouts should recruit new members to get their patrol size up to the ideal number.
Troop 55 has three kinds of patrols:
New Scout patrolsare for 11-year-old Scouts who have recently joined the troop. An assistant Scoutmaster and an older more experienced Scout is often assigned as a troop guide to help the new scout patrol.
Regular patrols are made up of Scouts who have completed their First Class requirements. They are comfortable with patrol and troop operations and are well versed in camping, cooking, and Scouting’s other basic skills. Scouts advance to the high end patrol once they achieve the Life rank. The high end patrol is dedicated to the Eagle rank advancement.
Venture Crew is new, and is made up of older Scouts from age 14 to 20 years of age. It is designed to keep older boys interested in Scouting. These boys have the maturity and experience to plan and take part in more challenging high adventure and sports outings. See Guidelines web page for more definition of the venture crew under Eagle Scout “active” participation. This patrol will be the focus of Eagle Scout continuing activity.
