     2005 NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE
               JULY 25 - AUGUST 3,2005

     In July of 2005, Scoutings’ biggest event will occur, the National Scout Jamboree. Held once every 4 years, the National Jamboree is a gathering of 40,000 Scouts and leaders in 800 troop campsites. Visualize the 7th largest city in Virginia springing up overnight in the fields of Ft. A. P. Hill as Scouts from all over the U.S. and visiting Scouts from around the world set up their camps.

     The Jamboree Scouts camp at Ft. A.P. Hill for 10 days participating in literally hundreds of activities and events. There is a Merit Badge Midway which highlights almost 100 merit badges. There are 3 gigantic Action Centers, where activities such as archery, rappelling, and a great obstacle course are held. There are many aquatics activities, including SCUBA, canoe slalom, and rafting. Twice during the Jamboree, huge arena shows are held in which all of the 40,000 Jamboree Scouts and thousands of visitors gather for a great show.

     The Quapaw Area Council contingent to the 2005 Jamboree will leave Little Rock on about July 20, 2005. The contingent will tour for about 5 days before heading to the Jamboree. The Quapaw Council group will see all the highlights of Washington, D.C., including the Capitol, the White House, the Lincoln and Jefferson Monuments, Arlington Cemetery and much more. The remainder of the touring itinerary has not yet been set, but past Jamboree contingents have visited Gettysburg, Baltimore, and Valley Forge.
     Quapaw Council has been allotted space for only 108 Scouts to attend the 2005 Jamboree. The fee has been set at $1950, which includes all transportation, meals, travel, touring, and the Jamboree itself. Scouts must have completed the 6th grade or will be at least 12 years old, but not older than 18,and be a First Class Scout by 7/1/05. Applications are available. A $150 deposit with the application will hold your place. Applications with deposits are accepted on a first come, first served basis. After all 108 slots are filled, a waiting list will be formed.
